After a five-year battle, our team secured a $3 million dollar verdict on behalf of our client in Mayfield v. Crete Carrier Corp., CJ-2023-3353, District Court of Oklahoma County, State of Oklahoma.

Our client suffered an acute L5/S1 disc herniation which required she undergo a laminectomy surgery. Despite a successful surgery she remained in pain and suffered post-operative collapse of the disc space for which her doctor recommended a two-level fusion to stabilize her spine. Given her young age, our client elected to post-pone surgery and treat her injury with conservative modalities and interventional pain-management, including epidural spine injections.

Throughout the litigation, Crete Carrier disputed that our client had been injured and claimed the collision was not severe enough to cause the injury our client claimed. Even after their own medical expert conceded she was injured during his deposition, Crete Carrier refused to take responsibility for the harm it and its driver had caused.

In April of 2025 Crete Carrier filed an offer to confess judgement in the amount of $400,000.00 pursuant to 12 O.S. 1101.1(A), which would have obligated our client to pay Crete’s attorney’s fees and costs from that date forward if she failed to recover an amount greater than the offer. Our client had the courage to say “no” and to put her trust in our team.

At trial the jury was informed of her approximately $205,000.00 in past medical expenses and saw Crete Carrier’s own medical expert admit our client was hurt and that the treatment she had received was both reasonable and directly related to the collision. The jury also heard compelling testimony of a life that had been forever changed by the careless actions of the driver and they company who put her behind the wheel despite a lengthy record of prior at-fault collisions.

After a four-day trial, the jury returned a verdict awarding $3 million dollars and damages.
